Event Details

Unfortunately this event is all booked up. If you'd like to add your name to the waitlist above, we'll let you know if any more tickets become available.

But that doesn't mean there can't be another Obscura Day event in New York. Help us organize us one. Email us, and let us know what you're thinking. We'll work with you to sort out the details.

Not sure what organizing an event entails? Don't worry about it! Tell us about places you think we should include in Obscura Day: curious tours you've been on, your neighbor's tin foil rollercoaster, whatever... we want to hear from you!

Join us at Penn Station to take the 10:31am LIRR train out to Greenlawn for a tour of the Vanderbilt Museum and the astounding natural history collection of eccentric playboy William K. Vanderbilt II. An avid sailor and self-proclaimed explorer, Vanderbilt traveled the globe, collecting artifacts and natural history specimens, and building his own private natural history museum.

We'll be taking a guided tour through the “Hall of Fishes,” one of the largest privately held collections of marine specimens in the world. The museum contains a mounted whale shark, the largest known piece of fish taxidermy in the world.

DETAILS AND DIRECTIONS

We will be meeting at 10:15am at Grand Central Station, in front of the gate leaving for Greenlawn, to catch the 10:30 AM train to Greenlawn. For those driving / meeting us in Greenlawn, we expect to be at the museum around 12:30 PM.

The Vanderbilt Museum charges a $7 admission.
